27 YEARS

It's only been about a week and a half since my birthday. No big deal. But now that all of the festivities are over, I feel like I can finally let the world in on my big day week.

Our first 2013 La Folie!

A few days before my birthday, I made a list of everything that I wanted to do over the weekend. This is a list of things that make me happy, and doing them with Andrew makes it all the sweeter. Some things on the list included: do a puzzle, get coffee, shop at NFM, pet the animals at the Humane Society, read, go to a movie, get a tattoo, and go on a walk. We did quite a few things on the list on Saturday. Some of them were let downs (There were so few animals at the Humane Society that they didn't have the cat room open! Good for them, bad for me.) others were awesome (Howlin' Hounds Coffee & NFM). And yet others, just didn't happen (umm... tattoo).

Bomb sandwich we made on Saturday. Nom!

Sunday, my actual birthday, was a very emotional day for me. The day didn't start off great when I realized we had left my keys in Andrew's car that was parked three miles away (We were responsible and had my sisters drive us to Taco Bell and then home on Saturday night. It was beer week... give us a break!). Luckily, my bro and SIL saved the day, but I still missed church...

Also, I think Andrew's schedule just really started to wear me down. I spent a lot of the day alone, and that's just a bummer on your birthday.

Andrew did manage to get me a crazy awesome gift; tickets to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros' concert at Red Rocks in June. What!? So that is going to be awesome! Also, he made me homemade mac n' cheese. And who doesn't love mac n' cheese?!?

The birthday week continued on Thursday when we braved some crazy weather to go to a New Belgium dinner hosted by Lot2 in Benson. Oh my! It was so delicious. 10/10 - would definitely do it again.

Overall, I would say it was a good birthday. Nothing great or spectacular (ask me again after the concert and I might have a different answer). I think it's a lot of my own fault. I get so excited for my birthday and always hope for fun and wonderful things. I think next year I will have no expectations or plan and just go about my day and hope that it is wonderful along the way.

SHAKE IT

The last few days, Andrew and I cannot get enough of the latest dance craze, the Harlem Shake. From the Harlem Shake spinner to the Reddit page, this is everywhere! This one featuring a dad and his son is by far my favorite, with Matt and Kim in a close second. It's so random and weird and funny.

Which ones are your favorites?

2013 GIRLS WEEKEND

Hooray for a blog worthy weekend! I feel like I haven't been doing a lot (hence the lack of posting). Now that I'm caught up from my Girls' Weekend in Des Moines, maybe I can get back to normal. But for now, let's talk about my super fun weekend!

Friday night: great talks, good beer, yummy food - It was so good to just catch up!

West End Architectural Salvage

Saturday: lazy morning with coffee and egg casserole, Scratch Cupcakery (we had the Sully and Samoa, a-maz-ing), West End Architectural Salvage, meeting Kristin of Iowa Girl Eats, funny tees at Raygun, more food at Raccoon River, and then antique browsing at Brass Armadillo. We were all tired by this time... I'm actually tired just writing it.

Raccoon River Brewery

Saturday night: meet up with more friends, Iowa Energy game (I think we all talked more than watched the game), Cards Against Humanity, sleepy time

Omg! Kristin - Iowa Girl Eats! I was so nervous.

Sunday: monkey bread, dreaming up plans of travel, home

Funny!

I also got all caught up on my Moth and This American life podcasts, Emily and I decided that we would create a playlist that would be appropriate for illicit drug use (no, we are not using drugs - just inspired by the HBO show Girls), Sarah is taking bets that three girls will be preggo next year (not me) and we learned that we are very easily starstruck by local bloggers.

Iowa Energy Game

Thanks for a very fun weekend, girls! Until next year...

Still not sure why we had to take a pic in the bathroom...
